Current Work in Progress: DECEIVERS
DECEIVERS is an upmarket contemporary retelling of MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING, which will appeal to fans of the DC high society scandal in LADIES OF THE HOUSE, the setting of THE WEDDING PEOPLE, and the class tension and sparkling humor of PINEAPPLE STREET.
At her uncle’s sprawling Eastern Shore mansion for the wedding week of her cousin Hiro’s daughter, stubbornly independent political consultant Blythe Russell intends to take a rare week off. Then a Supreme Court justice dies and Blythe sees her chance to get Hiro short-listed for the seat. As she begins plotting how best to lobby the White House senior staffers in attendance, she learns they’ve brought along a new hire: Blythe’s ex-boyfriend and bitter rival August Emerick. Let the verbal sparring begin.
Amidst wedding week events, Hiro plots with her wife and daughter, as well as August’s coworkers and friends to get Blythe and August past their past and back together. Just as the two begin to admit their rekindled feelings, a story breaks that not only takes Hiro out of contention for the Court, but could ruin both Hiro and Blythe forever. Blythe’s only chance is to swallow her considerable pride and ask for help from the one person who doesn’t question their innocence. But standing up for Blythe could cost August his White House dream job. If she’s going to get Hiro on the Court and restore her own good name, Blythe will have to trust that – this time – August will put her ahead of his own ambition.
